Extra members: who they are for
The Standard and Premium plans let you add paid extra members for people who do not live in your household. Each extra member has their own profile, their own password and their own recommendations, so the main account password stays private. If you all live at the same address, the plan can be used without extra members, under the conditions Netflix sets.
What changes between plans
Netflix sells tiers with different video quality and simultaneous streams, and the cost of an extra member follows the plan you pick. This page lists one row per shareable plan published for the US, so you can compare the total cost and both shares before you create or join a group.
