Maggie is a waitress with a passion for boxing. One day she goes into the Hit Pit, a boxing gym owned by a grumpy old boxing trainer. Maggie hires veteran Frankie Dunn to train her although he is reluctant at first. Maggie works her way up through the amateur woman’s division, making a name for herself. Frankie, however, refuses to take her into the big fights. In the end he gives up and gets her a $1,000,000 match in Las Vegas. Maggie’s career takes a turn for the worse when she is hit from the back by her opponent and her neck is broken. She ends up paralized in hospital with her whole family of leeches onto her and bedsores that lead to the amputation of a leg.
