Netflix is one of the most well-known streaming services on the internet. With around 17,000 titles worldwide including classics, new blockbuster movies, TV series galore and numerous Netflix Originals, you will never get bored with a Netflix account.
Netflix offers ad-free and unlimited streaming. You can even download content by clicking the download button. This allows you to watch Netflix wherever you go, even if there is no Wifi signal or internet connection.
Sometimes you might find that your Netflix freezes yet the entire device is working completely normally. When Netflix freezes like this it usually means that information on your device needs refreshing.
Luckily for you, this is easy to resolve and with a few quick steps, you won’t need to worry about Netflix freezing at inopportune moments anymore!
When Netflix keeps freezing but your device is unfrozen there are a few different steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem. If you cannot solve the problem using any of these troubleshooting steps then you can always contact Netflix customer service.
There are a few different things to try if Netflix keeps freezing on your computer or laptop operating system:
If Netflix freezes when you sign in to the Netflix app, try to open Netflix again and sign in to the app again.
If Netflix freezes whilst you are watching a show then restart your device, leaving it off for at least 10 seconds before turning it back on again.
You could also try to clear your Netflix cookies from your browser. This will log you back out of your account. Log in and try again.
Restart your internet connection at the modem.
If you find Netflix freezing on your mobile device then try these different options:
Turn the device off and on again if you are having problems loading content or logging in.
Restart your internet modem and make sure you leave it off for a full 30 seconds.
Improve your WiFi signal by moving the modem and mobile device closer to each other
On an IOS device try resetting the Netflix app by finding the reset switch in the settings menu.
On an IOS device try to reinstall Netflix. To do this you must delete Netflix and then download it again. This will remove all your downloaded TV shows and movies from the Netflix app. Find the Netflix app in the Apple Store and tap on the download button.
Check your restriction settings in the settings menu on an IOS device. Restrictions need to be disabled and you should add the Netflix app to the list of unrestricted apps.
Contact your internet service provider to make sure your internet connection is working as it should.
When trying to stop Netflix freezing on a game console how you troubleshoot it will depend on which operating system you are using. Some general things to check are:
Check that your network connection allows you to access Netflix. Some public network connections, like those in a school, do not let you stream.
Check your network connection speed is high enough.
Make sure the date and time on the device are correct. Having the wrong date and time can cause problems with Netflix.
Restart your device or your home network connection.
Sign out of Netflix and sign back in.
Remove the Netflix app and then reinstall the app.
Confirm your device’s DNS settings. Make sure they are set to automatic.
Choose the storage device on your game console and clear the system cache. Once it is cleared launch Netflix and see if it works.
Select Netflix settings and make sure they match up with the settings needed to work on your gaming device.
Once again Smart TV models differ in how you are able to fix Netflix. However, there are some general troubleshooting options you can try that should stop Netflix freezing on you!
Restart your device, making sure it is unplugged and fully switched off.
Sign out and back into your Netflix account.
Uninstall Netflix and then select install Netflix again.
Make sure to update driver or ask for a software update.
Contact the device manufacturer and ask for a factory reset or ask for help updating to the latest firmware.
On your Amazon Fire TV or Stick, Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast or other devices, try the above options to fix Netflix, if these don’t work try the more specific options below:
Restore your default connection settings including any custom modem, DNS or VPN settings.
Reset your Chromecast settings by holding the reset button for 25 seconds.
On your Roku, deactivate the Netflix app by navigating to the Roku home screen and finding the Netflix settings menu, or highlight Netflix and then press the star on the Roku remote and select Netflix to remove it from the device. Once removed reinstall Netflix. This should fix Netflix.
If you have connection issues or Netflix keeps freezing on any other device try contacting the device manufacturer or contacting the Netflix customer service team.
When it is both the device and Netflix freezing then you need to restart the streaming device’s operating system either by waiting for the device to respond or forcing it to shut down. It can help to close down all third-party applications that you are not using to unfreeze your device.
After this, as long as the device is not completely unresponsive, you can start troubleshooting Netflix using the methods listed above.
Depending on your Netflix subscription there are different recommended internet connection speeds. Many issues with Netflix come from internet connection issues.
If you have a basic account you will watch in standard definition, this requires at least 1MBPS speed, and if you are trying to stream in 4k or Ultra HD using a premium subscription, it requires at least 15 MBPS. A faster connection will give you less chance of your account freezing or getting buffering issues.
Don’t have a Netflix account yet? Netflix offers a number of different descriptions depending on your needs.
The basic plan costs $9.99 per month and allows one stream at a time and downloads onto one device.
The standard plan costs $15.49 per month and allows two simultaneous streams as well as downloads onto two devices and HD streaming.
The premium plan costs $19.99 per month and allows up to four simultaneous streams and downloads on up to four devices. Streaming is available in Ultra HD.
Want to save money on your Netflix account? Easy! Try account sharing. When you share a Netflix subscription you share the costs between multiple people. As four users can simultaneously stream with the Netflix premium plan you can share your account between four people meaning you pay only a quarter of the price. What’s not to love?!
