Netflix is a haven for movie lovers and binge-watchers alike. But what movies should you watch to keep your brain engaged and entertained? Read on to find out!

These mind-bending films will make you doubt reality, space, time, and everything in between. You’ll be hooked immediately on these insane movies that will leave you questioning your sanity by the end. This article will tell you the movies on Netflix worth watching.

Our Top Mind-Bending Films:

1. The Invitation

The Invitation is a more unsettling than scary horror film. Will and his girlfriend receive an invitation to a dinner party from his ex-wife Eden. They had not seen each other since their separation after the death of their son.

The film relies more on tension than jump scares, and you’ll love the psychological tension.

2. The Call

The Call on Netflix

If you could change someone’s life after talking to them over an old cordless phone, how would you react? The thing is that the two girls speaking on either end of the line are separated by a time span of twenty years.

This South Korean film adaptation is an interesting mind-bending story about a girl who receives a phone call from the past. It seems normal at first, but then strange things begin to happen as they realise that changing events in their own present can affect the other’s life even through time.

The Call is a mind-boggling and intriguing mystery. However, the ending seems lacklustre compared to the build-up. But do wait for the mid-credit scene!

3. Annihilation

Annihilation is a stunning sci-fi horror that leaves you flabbergasted. Critics worldwide have given rave reviews to this film.

A biologist volunteers for a secret government mission into a mysterious area where the laws of nature don’t apply. The surprising ending leaves your head spinning as you try to make sense of what has just happened.

4. I’m Thinking of Ending Things

I'm Thinking of Ending Things on Netflix

This psychological thriller is the adaptation of the novel by Iain Reid. It could lead you to think it is a teenage romance movie, but instead, it is much darker and more tense than one would expect.

It is a contorted story that will make your mind spin and leave you thinking about life and the future.

5. The Platform

The Platform on Netflix

The Spanish film The Platform gained popularity on social media mainly because of its concept. Although it is science fiction, it is all about class disparity. The movie also states some scientifically proven, thought-provoking facts.

In a dystopian future, prisoners are kept in cells built vertically, one above another. There is a shaft in the centre that lowers a platform of food. On the higher levels, prisoners get to eat as much as they want. While prisoners below have to make do with the leftovers. If there are any!

6. Buster’s Mal Heart

Buster's Mal Heart on Netflix

Buster’s Mal Heart is a surreal and bizarre film, like an exciting and unpredictable ride.

Buster is a man who tries to survive by breaking into peoples empty holiday homes and calling radio talk shows ranting about the Millenium Bug. He has visions and memories of his former life. In it, he was Jonah, a night-shift concierge in a hotel and family man, who took this job very seriously and became mentally broken because of it.

7. In the Tall Grass

Cal and 6 month-pregnant Becky are brother and sister. On their way to San Diego, they hear the desperate cry of a young boy coming from a field of tall grass. They go in to try to save the boy but soon find out that they can’t escape anymore and that something terrible hides among the leaves. The unsettling and tension building atmosphere will keep you on edge till the very end.

This Canadian supernatural horror film is based on the novel In the Tall Grass by Stephan King and Joe Hill. So watch it at your own peril!

8. Gerald’s Game

Gerald's Game on Netflix

Gerald’s Game is another film based on a Stephen King novel. It’s the story of a couple staying in an isolated house for the holidays to try to rekindle their relationship.

The husband handcuffs his wife to the bedposts to enact a sexual fantasy but suddenly dies of a heart attack leaving her trapped. To survive, she must face her demons as they come to life around her one by one until there is no turning back. It’s death or survival!

Casting JonBenét

This is a movie inspired by a true-crime incident. JonBenét Ramsey, a child beauty pageant queen, was killed on Christmas night in 1996. Director Kitty Green wanted to retell the story from a different perspective. The film is about the casting of the film where the actors auditioning for the parts of her family members are interviewed to give their point of view on the events that led to JonBenét’s heinous murder.

Make sure to watch this movie. A murder case full of mysteries that is unsolved to this day.

The Discovery

The Discovery

In The Discovery, Robert Redford plays Dr Thomas Harbor who has found scientific proof of life beyond death. Tensions rise and things get complicated when the number of suicides escalates drastically because everyone wants to reset their lives and start anew.

Dr Harbor’s sons have a lot to say about their father’s responsibility in these suicides, although he denies it, while at the same time battling their own father’s cruelty.

Nocturnal Animals

It’s a great film starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Amy Adams, Michael Sheen and other incredible stars. An established art gallery owner seems to be going through a rough patch in her life, seeing as her new husband cheats on her. One night, she receives the manuscript of a newly finished novel from her writer ex-husband who she hasn’t seen for about 20 years.

The novel is called Nocturnal Animals, the knick-name he used to call her by and is dedicated to her. Scenes between the reality of her reading the manuscript and what goes on in the novel alternate and present metaphorical parallel themes with their past life as husband and wife. She gets completely engrossed in the novel as we do for a few hours in the movie.

Bird Box

Bird Box on Netflix

Talking of a mind-bending film where all your worst fears come true! Bird Box is amazing!

Sandra Bullock interprets a mother and aunt to two children that finds herself in the middle of an absurd and dangerous situation because an invisible, unidentified entity makes people kill themselves if they see it. So the whole film is about her trying to stay alive and get her kids to safety while blindfolded the whole time.
